CALLAWAY’S IT’S MY TURN NOW| 15-YEAR-OLD AMERICAN SADDLEBRED | MAGNOLIA, TX

Turner, Callaway’s It’s My Turn Now, is an American Saddlebred Gelding. He was bred at Callaway Hills Farm in New Bloomfield, MO. Turner lives and trains at Lone Star Saddlebreds in Magnolia, TX.

As a chestnut gelding, Turner is a striking presence on the farm, but it’s his unique characteristics that truly set him apart. He has a remarkable ability to sense when his owner, Koren, has arrived, and he calls out to her with enthusiasm, even before she makes it through the doors.

Turner’s strength and confidence are evident in his every move, particularly when he’s showing off his impressive five gaits. Yet despite his power, he has a gentle and playful sense of humor that endears him to his owner and all who meet him.

Koren’s journey to finding Turner was nothing short of serendipitous. While shopping in Lexington, Kentucky for a client in August of 2022, she stumbled upon the perfect horse – Turner. As soon as she saw him, she recognized his exceptional breeding and knew he was meant to come home with her to Texas. The decision was easy, and Turner quickly became a beloved member of the family.

Turner is a horse with an insatiable appetite for treats. While he enjoys all kinds of snacks, there is one particular treat that he simply can’t get enough of – peppermints. Whenever he hears the crinkle of the wrapper or the sound of the candy hitting his owner’s hand, he can’t help but get excited. Watching Turner munch on his favorite treat is a true delight. His eyes light up with joy as he savors the sweet, refreshing taste of the peppermint.

Koren’s passion for horses began when she was just 9 years old, taking riding lessons at a local barn close to her parent’s home. From there, she rode and competed in schools and leased horses until she purchased her first horse after graduating from college. After a decade in the corporate world, Koren realized that her true calling was in the equine industry. She became a professional in the horse world and, along with trainer Milo Jones, started Lone Star Saddlebreds. For the past 20 years, they’ve been operating an equine business on their 20-acre farm in Texas, which is now home to around 50 American Saddlebred horses, including show horses, school horses, broodmares, a breeding stallion, and several rescued horses.

For Koren, the most rewarding part of being a horse owner is seeing the horses happy and thriving. It’s clear that her love for these majestic animals runs deep, and she’s dedicated her life to ensuring that they have the best possible care and quality of life.

Koren has had many wonderful moments with her beloved horse Turner, but one memory stands out above the rest. Turner is related to one of her favorite horses that has passed, and the two share many personality traits and characteristics. Even though she hasn’t had Turner for very long, Koren feels as though she’s known him for years.

One of her favorite memories with Turner is simply walking into the barn and hearing him nicker to her. It’s a small gesture, but it speaks volumes about the bond between horse and owner. Koren also cherishes the moments she spends riding Turner, feeling his gameness and strength under the saddle. But above all, it’s his beautiful eyes and chiseled face that won her heart. With Turner by her side, Koren knows that she has a loyal and loving companion who will always bring a smile to her face.
