WHO’S YOUR HUCKLEBERRY | 8 YEAR OLD SADDLEBRED | BELLVILLE, TX

Finn, Who’s Your Huckleberry, is a Saddlebred Gelding. His sire is Chosholosa and his dam is Time to Win who is by CH Caramac. Melissa, Finn’s owner actually bred Finn and helped deliver him. Finn trains at Bluebonnet Farm with Sandra Currier.

Finn is a 16.2hh Bay horse with a striking black mane and tail, and a unique white elongated star and snip on his forehead. He is known for his friendly and loving personality towards his people, particularly his groom Evan. Finn is always eager and ready to go whether he’s driving or under saddle, and he enjoys working for carrots. In fact, he often performs some neck and back stretches after work just to earn a bite of his favorite treat. Finn also loves his winter breaks and puts on a lively show in the paddock, snorting and bucking with enthusiasm. As a yearling, Finn played chase every morning with his full sister for about 5-10 minutes, which was always a fun sight to see.

Melissa, Finn’s owner, has a special connection with him because she bred him herself. Finn was born at Melissa’s farm in Round Top, TX. During Finn’s birth, Melissa had to assist his mother in delivering him by pulling until his head and shoulders were out. Finn was the largest foal his mother had ever had, with long legs and a long neck. Melissa is proud of the fact that she helped bring Finn into the world and has watched him grow into the amazing horse he is today.

This lovable horse has a few favorite treats that he can never resist. He loves carrots, apples, and peppermints, but his relationship with these treats wasn’t always smooth sailing. It took Finn some time to warm up to peppermints and apples. In fact, for several months, he would spit them out on the ground before he decided they were tasty. Nonetheless, Finn’s love for these treats is unwavering, and his owners always make sure to have them on hand as a special reward for their furry friend.

Finn has achieved some impressive accomplishments in his career. He proudly holds the title of Reserve World’s Champion in Country Pleasure driving, having achieved this feat in both 2021 and 2022. Finn’s success didn’t stop there, as he also earned the title of Reserve World’s Champion of Champions in his championship Country Pleasure driving class in 2022. In addition to these remarkable achievements, Finn has also won several regional high point awards, making him a highly decorated horse in the eyes of his owners and fans.

Melissa’s love for horses developed later in life when her daughter was six years old. They took lessons together and soon began showing horses. Melissa’s daughter showed up until she went off to college, and then Melissa began showing her daughter’s mare. They decided to try breeding and had three beautiful foals, two of which are currently show horses. For Melissa, raising horses is not only a lot of work but also very relaxing and therapeutic for her soul. She loves the connections she has with her horses and finds it entertaining to watch their unique personalities shine through in the pasture. Melissa’s passion for horses has become a significant part of her life, and she cherishes the moments she spends with them.

Melissa has countless wonderful memories with her beloved horse, but one stands out as her favorite. Winning the RWCC in Country Pleasure driving at the WCHS in Louisville in 2022 was a dream come true for Melissa and Finn. They decided to go all out and give it their all, and Finn responded with incredible enthusiasm and energy. Melissa remembers the drive being a thrilling experience, feeling like she was flying with Finn by her side. The moment they were announced as the winners was a truly special one for Melissa and Finn and one that will forever be etched in their memories.
