Meet Sachet, a 7-year-old Thoroughbred mare with 7 racehorse bloodlines running through her. Sachet is a dark bay with a white blaze and has two white socks on her hind legs. Sachet is owned and adored by Betsy DeVenny who trains with Bob Brawley at Brawley Farms in Double Oak, TX.
At the time we photographed Sachet, Betsy had owned Sachet for short 8 months. Betsy shared that she was previously owned by the barn’s prior owner. Betsy shares that during the midst of horse shopping, she started riding Sachet. Today’s market has made it especially hard to find what a lot of people are looking for, such as Betsy, so she decided to purchase Sachet to have a horse to ride in the meantime. Although she hasn’t owned her very long, she has completely fallen in love with her. Betsy shared that Sachet is totally different than any other horse she has owned in the past. Sachet is brave and wants to please yet isn’t overly cuddly. Which of course has been an adjustment for Betsy, considering her past geldings enjoyed all the love and affection. It wasn’t until recently that Sachet started letting Betsy rub her head and kiss her. Betsy shares, “and the best part is she knickers at me now too. I feel our bond getting stronger every day. I can tell she trusts me too.”
Sachet’s favorite treats are carrots and cookies.
Betsy started her riding journey as a young child and competed in hunter/jumpers until her thirties when her jumper had a career-ending injury. After, she decided to take a break for about 10 years but says that her heart always missed it. During covid, Betsy and her family lost a beloved family member due to cancer. It was then that she had an “ah-ha” moment and realized how precious and short our lives are. She decided she NEEDED to get back to her passion which brings her immense joy and happiness (and that’s really what it’s all about!). It’s been about a year and a half since Betsy has been back in the saddle and couldn’t be happier!
