Laughton 3, “Loki”, is a 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding. This handsome guy is a dark bay with a big white blaze and 3 white socks. Loki lives in Austin, TX at Madrone Ranch Stables, where his loving owner and rider, Maia Russell, trains with Rachel Lindsey. I have photographed quite a few horses from Madrone Ranch Stables and if you aren’t familiar with their mascot, Noel, you need to swing by their barn next time and say “Hi”, you won’t be disappointed!
Loki was the first and only horse that Maia tried when she decided to move from equitation to jumpers. She shared that as soon as she got on him, she knew immediately…he was the one! “I seriously could not have chosen a better horse. My favorite memory of Loki has to be the first time I showed him. At the time I had some major showing anxiety, but when we went into the ring I had the most fun I have ever had. He quickly became my best friend.”
Loki has the biggest personality that Maia has ever seen. He does this thing where he sticks his tongue out and turns his head when he is begging for a treat or just wants to play! (which is obviously irresistible!) His angry yet loving and goofy personality earned him the nickname llama (his spirit animal of course). He even has 2 llama-shaped toys hanging in his stall at home (one of which he squeaks all day long) and one that travels with him to shows!
Loki LOVES apples…but only if they are sliced. He refuses to eat them whole!
Maia has been riding since the young age of 4. She is now a working student at Madrone and competes in the low juniors.
