Montaro is an 11-year-old RPSI owned by Sharon. The pair trains at Olde Oaks Farms.
Montaro is an impressive dark bay gelding who was bred by Wendy Davis at October Hill Farm. He is by Mezcalero out of a Coconut Grove mare. Sharon has known Montaro since before he was born! Her dad purchased him while his dam was still pregnant with him. This is called an in-utero purchase. Sharon got to meet him just a few days after he was born.
One of Sharon’s favorite memories of him is when he was 9 months old he figured out he could jump out of his 5ft pasture. He continued to jump out until they ended up having to build him his own giraffe pen. From that point on, anywhere they moved we had to build him a new and taller pasture fence to keep him contained!
Montaro loves his job. He isn’t a fan of being loved on or getting cuddles but he takes excellent care of his rider no matter who is on him. Whether it’s a little kid or a professional he gives his best every time.
