One of the most common questions people ask me is, “Can we do black background portraits with my black horse?” The answer is yes 100%, and they look gorgeous! Black horses on a black background may be my absolute favorite! I know, you are probably thinking, but a black horse will blend in to a black background. Well, that may be true for some portraits, but I promise we make sure that you black horses will pop off the background and not blend in. We would tell you all of our tricks, but what fun would that be?! I will however tell you that the secret is in our lights which help make their hair glisten and really shine so that they stand out.
I wanted to share a few black background portraits of Morgan’s horses, Cheval & Sieva, during their portrait session in Bastrop,TX.
After looking at their portraits you will probably also think, “HOW ON EARTH ARE THOSE HORSES STANDING STILL?!” Well we have a special halter we use for portraits if you would like your horses to look all natural. It is a very thin halter that can be edited out, and like magic everyone will think your horse is the best behaved horse in the world and just magically stands still for portraits.
