What is one of the fewer places in the United States that you can wear flip flops and snow boots in the same day? You guessed it, North Carolina. From the Appalachian Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean you can be captivated in its adventurous possibilities and this is no exception especially for equestrians. Let us tell you why…
“The vision of USEF is to bring the joy of horse sports to as many people as possible. It’s hard to imagine an equine event in the United States that could do more than this trifecta in Tryon.” –Murray Kessler, USEF President
Tryon International Equestrian Center
North Carolina is a favored state and for good reason, if you have ever had the opportunity to visit or live there you know you have it best with nature at your fingertips. Look one way and you have captivating mountains and look the other way and you see the vast ocean. Oh, and you also have a world class distinguished equestrian facility, Tryon International Equestrian Center. This is our number one place for you to visit here… and though we have more, you may find you will never even want to leave the grounds of this mega equestrian center as it has absolutely everything you would ever need or want. And yes, not just for you but for the whole family. Some have described it as the Disneyland of the horse world. You can enjoy gazing out over the blue ridge mountains on this 1400 acre facility of pristine splendor while sipping some delightful wine on your cabin deck or lodge patio. I personally love coffee, as many equestrians do, so go ahead and check out The Mane Street Coffee overlooking the center jumping ring. Take a look at this video that features TIEC’s numerous amenities. Watch it here.
This year the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games will be hosted by Tryon from September 3rd through the 23rd. The best Equestrians in 8 main events travel from all over the world to compete. These include: Jumping, Dressage, Para-Dressage, Eventing. Driving, Endurance, Vaulting and Reining. There will also be other exhibitors and demonstrations scheduled throughout the event. Take note that the World Equine Expo is running congruent with the WEG, this is a wonderful expo celebrating our relationship with the horse and all that they are and always have been to us. Check out this emotional video created to share the heart behind the legacy of the horse #together here.
A short drive away you guys can search for your equestrian treasures at The Farmhouse Tack Shop, a boutique decorated in English dreams. There are endless options to find what you need or want here. Stocked on the shelves and clothing racks you will find many sizes and colors to sort through, you are bound to find something at this lovely little shop. My personal favorite is the saddle pad wall… SO. MANY. OPTIONS. I am positive you will want to hug the fluffy cloud of saddle pads and view the rainbow of blankets! Do not worry, all of your favorite English brands are here and accounted for: Tailored Sportsman, Samshield, Ariat, Kerrits, Charles Owen and so many more. Did you guys see the new rose gold helmet that Samshield has out? It makes my heart sing! Farmhouse also has wonderful closeout items and a nice consignment saddle selection as well, you may just find some great deals and “new to you” treasures. Thanks to the world wide web you do not even have to visit Tryon to benefit from all that this tack store has to offer… shop online as well.
Huckleberry Bakery and Restaurant
As riders we are athletes and most of the time we try to keep it healthy but once in awhile who doesn’t enjoy an occasional sugar and carb fix?! What started out as a bakery is now one of Tryon’s beloved restaurants for Brunch and sinner. Huckleberry has been feeding Tryon equestrians for years and also now serves alcohol, they receive their beer from local distilleries. Uniquely enough, Machaila Cowles, who founded this restaurant was only 16 when she started and she is a young baking and entrepreneur genius. Those with diet restrictions can also enjoy healthier items such as their gluten free options. Boots, breeches and poochy are all welcome at this dog and equestrian friendly establishment. Take the time to treat yourself and watch this video that showcases this special restaurant and bakery.
We love the amenities and fun atmosphere of a resort but if you are looking for something more quaint and personal, perhaps you should check out this lovely bed and breakfast. Even though Landrum is in South Carolina, do not worry… it is only about a 24 minute drive away from Tryon International Equestrian Center. Unwind at the end of a busy day away from the crowds in one of their romantic luxury cottages that boast chandeliers and whirlpool tubs. I do not know about you, but any place that greets me with a beverage is my best friend, especially being from hot Texas… but when it is wine, even better. Your fur-babies are also welcome at this dog friendly home. Flooded with personal touches and antique Virginian horse farm flair, you can’t help but fall in love all over again while overlooking the beautiful pastures. Enjoy home cooked meals and receive a horseshoe for luck when you check- out.
