IM A RASCAL JAC | 17 YEAR OLD AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE GELDING | CORPUS CHRISTI,TX

Im a Rascal Jack, Sierra, is a 17 year old American Quarter Horse out of reining bloodlines. He was bred by Jim & Kathy Knight.

This handsome bay that Chantal calls her “old war horse” has been there and done that when it comes to the show pen. He is a lover, but can be quite jealous when he catches you loving on another horse. He is easy to ride however he is not a good horse for just anyone because the first 15 minutes he likes to “play” around, and even as he has aged he always has kept up his shenanigans the first 15 minutes of the ride. He tries his heart out for his owner Chantal and she says that  she can’t thank him enough for always doing his best.

Sierra is a reining horse, Chantal says that “Sierra knows more about it than I do myself, so I always have to try and stay a few steps ahead.” I think we can all agree thats the best kind of horse to have, but sometimes the hardest when they can be too smart for their own good.

Chantal met Sierra 10 years ago when he was brought home for some R&R from training. He ended up staying home. Chantal would excursive him daily and keep him ready to show and would groom him for shows. Chantal tried to buy him many times, with no luck until recently. She was finally able to swoop him up and even though he had a rough start she plans on getting him back in the show pen for fun.

This ornery boy loves German Horse Treats.

Although he has shown many times in the Non-Pro for Reining, he doesn’t have any special awards or crazy accomplishments, but ultimately none of that really matters because he is Chantal’s go-to horse from everything. From trail riding, to moving cattle, tuning up Chantal’s reining skills (because remember he is too smart for his own good and knows it all), and much more, Sierra is the man.

Chantal’s late father was a horse trainer so naturally she was on horses before she could walk. She has owned horses since she was born either through her parents or even when her and her Father has split ownership of some of the horses. Chantal shares “I will never be without a horse! Horses have been my sanctuary in the madness of life from the ups to the downs. They are my biggest root to my family history and that is something I can never forget and is my favorite thing about them.”

I think this is something we can all agree on, horses have an amazing way of being our sanctuary in the madness, I don’t think I could have found more perfect words to explain that.

“My favorite memory is the day my father and I took Seirra and another horse out to go round up 30+ cattle that had gotten loose due to terrible storm in the summer. There were trees down on fences, cattle scattered for a mile. Seirra and I rode up and down deep & steep ditches, moving water, through the trees and thick brush to move the cattle out and where they should be. We did this for 4 hours, he never once tried to quit on me or offer to spook during the day. I like to think he rather enjoyed a change of pace chasing cattle around.”

Chantal shares her tips for keeping the horses in tip top shape is lots of elbow grease and of course everyone’s favorite Mane & Tail conditioner and MTG…because who doesn’t love the smell of weird bacon grease.
