NISTAR BLAZING KANSAS | 13 YEAR OLD WELSH STALLION | LEXINGTON,KY
Kansas, Nistar Blazing Kansas, is a 13 year old Welsh Pony Stallion. He is out of GTF Blazing Ethel and by Menai Silver Buck. He is registered as both a Welsh and a Pinto, and is proven to produce a lot of chrome in his foals.
Kansas is owned by Cindy of Fox Run Farm in Paris,KY. The pair does driving, halter, and trail classes. Cindy has rescued ponies (over 3000) for around 40 years from stock yards and horse traders. Many of Cindy’s ponies have come out of actual kill pens, most have turned into good ponies for 4-H and Pony Club, a few have even gone to national recognition. Cindy’s bucket list endeavor was to try to breed a few good ponies. Cindy purchased another stallion, but he ended up not being a great match for Cindy and then a friend saw a 2-year old cold in Kansas on the internet that caught her eye. At the beginning Cindy wasn’t really interested, he was the wrong size, color, and just not the horse that Cindy thought she needed. Something about him,did intrigue her and she decided to purchase him and have him shipped to Kentucky.
When Kansas arrived he was so small, Cindy figure she could only show him in hand and breed a few foals. Many years later, Cindy had surgery on her shoulder and was told that she could’t ride for a year. Cindy came home, and announced that if she couldn’t ride then she would drive. The only problem was that she didn’t know anything about driving, nor did she have a horse that was trained to drive. With her right arm in a sling, Cindy set out to train her then 7-year old stallion to drive. Cindy shared, “God takes care of the weak and the foolish. I qualified on both counts. So with this intelligent, kind pony stallion I forged ahead and together we learned the sport of driving.”
Kansas is such a kind horse, and he is often pastured with colts and geldings with no problem. He is a friend to everyone he meets. Every year since 2006, Kansas has been a multiple year-end-chamption. Three times he has won the All Breed award with USDF for the Welsh. He has also been the Grand Champion of the National Dressage Pony Cup three times.
Cindy shares her favorite story about Kansas, “Early in his driving career I took my friend, Aveen driving at the Kentucky Horse Park. We drove around a bit then stopped to watch people take their horses and carriages into a large lake and go around Obstacles. When there wasn’t any one in the water I asked Aveen if she would like us to try the water with Kansas? She asked if he had ever been in the water and I said no. She then said that she would rather not go in in case he would get scared. Kansas scared….no way. I gave him a cluck and into the water we jumped with a splash! I have the best photo of Kansas in the water that day with me laughing and a very concerned passenger next to me!!”
