AM DRESSAGE

Bloo, Midnight Blues, is a Irish Draft x Thoroughbred. His dam is Midnight Decision, Nuit, which is french for night. She was a Thoroughbred mare and bred for the track, however was too large to be raced. He was bred by John Fuller, Alannah’s grandfather. John bred her to an Irish Draft horse so that Alannah would have a horse with more bone and substance for eventing.

Bloo is a funny guy. As a young horse, he had nick names like “stupid Irishman” but he was far from being stupid. Bloo is a very smart guy, which has sometimes made training him difficult. Alannah constantly has to remind herself to be smarter than the horse. “There were times I cried to my mom that I didn’t want him anymore! But again, I was determined! He was never dangerous and would never hurt himself (so you were always safe) . I believe he helped mold me into the rider I am today. Now he’s our schoolmaster, teaching new and old riders to master this thing we call dressage”

Alannah doesn’t really ride him anymore. She just tunes him up every once in a while. He’s also great to ride and pony around the young horses who are about to go under saddle. Alannah schooled him up to 4th, but it was obvious the upper levels where too strenuous for him. Julia Hanson is riding him, in hopes to show second level soon! “My favorite thing about him, is his happy go lucky personality. He gets along with every horse! A very social guy. He is now pasture buddies with my young horse Pacman, who’s the boss, which I think is karma since Bloo was such a pest as a young boy with his older pasture mates in the past! I remember as a foal, his mother was more than ready for us to wean him. She didn’t care for him much.”

Since we lived 40 mins away, we missed the birth, but got to see his first steps! After that, I had a blast riding his momma while he ran along us.”

Alannah of AM Dressage describes him in one word as “Happy.” He loves treats and sometimes can be a beggar.

Back when Alannah was showing him as a JrYR the pair received a 3rd,5th,7th, and 10th at championships one year for 2nd and 3rd. They dabbled in jumpers before that and where always in the ribbons. Alannah also got her bronze medal on him.

“My favorite thing about the horses is that they never judge you and are always there for you. Cheesy but true!”

“Bloo LOVES to trail ride. Last trail ride was with my assistant trainer at the time. We were trotting and hanging out in the lake, Bloo kept sniffing the water. She kept warning me that he looked like he was trying to roll. I just laughed and said he’s never tried that and that he would never do that! Hahaha… there’s always a first…my boots where soaked!”
