MOUNTJOY’S SAVANA SANTANA | 7 YEAR OLD AMERICAN SADDLEBRED MARE | LAWRENCEBURG,KY

Savana, Mounty’s Savana Santana, is a 7 year old American Saddlebred Mare. She is by Santana Hosanna, a top producer of Futurity babies, her Dam is Ultimate Premier. Savana is a granddaughter of the great WC WGC Sultan’s Santana on her top side, and granddaughter of RWC Pocket Charm who was by the well-known sire Valley’s Desdemona Denmark, who is out of the best-producing mare in Saddlebred history, Dixie Duchess and a granddaughter of Ultimatum, son of Will Shriver, on her bottom side. She was bred by David Mountjoy of Mountjoy Stables in Lawrenceburg,KY.

Savana lives at her owner Michelle’s farm, Fireridge Farm, in Lawrenceburg,KY. Savana is a great escape artist. She can let herself out of her stall, so they have to keep a chain snap around the door. She is very smart, and very, very inquisitive. She will open trash cans and empty everything out. If there happens to be a plastic bag, she will pick it u and run down the barn aisle tormenting the other horses. She is calm and will venture into any situation that Michelle asks her to. Oh, and she LOVES to have her ears rubbed.

Michelle does Western and Saddleseat with Savana, and she adapts to either one. Michelle found Savana through the breeder as a four month old weanling. Michelle has owned her ever since she was four months old. She shares, “Savana picked me! She was in the field with her dam, never really been handled. I sat down in the field and she walked right up to me and sniffed my face. That was all it took! She was mine.”

This intelligent mare loves Peppermints.

As a baby Savana suffered a leg injury, which required surgery, yet she still went on to show in the Saddlebred Futurity Division and Model Classes. She has won at the Kentucky Spring Premier Horse Show, and placed in the All American Cup in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Michelle, shares that she was born a crazy horse girl, rode her first horse at age five, and hasn’t stopped since. Michelle has had horses for many, many years. Michelle pestered and pestered her parents for a horse, and when she was twelve, her Dad said that if she made straight “A’s” the next school year, he would buy her a horse. The rest is history.

“One of my favorite memories about Savana, was when she was shown at the at the All American Cup in Indianapolis in the Indiana Futurity. There she was right up there with all of the big name trainers and horses. She placed fourth! The trust that she has in people is amazing! From her injury to her leg to the show ring, what an accomplishment for both she and I. It took four long months of recovery as a weanling, but we did it! She had a rough start to this world. But to see her now, you would never know anything happened. This photo session is for the little mare with the great big heart!”

Michelle shares her biggest tips for having horses, “Just to treat each horse as a separate individual and respect each and every one of them! Treat them all differently. People need to adapt to each horse and use whatever technique works for that animal.”
